(Nov. 25) -- Eva Longoria Parker was named Philanthropist of the Year by the The Hollywood Reporter for her work with charities, including founding Eva's Heroes, a nonprofit in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas, that offers after-school programs for the developmentally disabled.
The entertainment-industry paper honored the star of "Desperate Housewives" at a reception Monday in West Hollywood where she was toasted by musician Sheryl Crow and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The actress is also the national spokeswoman for Padres Contra El Cancer (Parents Against Cancer), a nonprofit committed to improving the lives of Latino children with cancer, and was executive producer of "The Harvest," a documentary focusing on the plight of the 500,000 child farm workers in America.
Additionally, she is on the advisory board of the $5 million Chase Community Giving contest being promoted on Facebook.
At Monday night's event, Hollywood Reporter editor Elizabeth Guider thanked Longoria Parker for "so beautifully embodying the philanthropic ideal."
